Halloween

Oh Halloween. Not my favorite holiday that is for sure. The girls love dressing up. For at least the 3rd year in a row, Katelyn was a black cat. She really loves cats. I am afraid she may end up with 20 cats when she is older and people will refer to her as the crazy cat lady. As long as she does not bring cats home before she move out (and that better not be for a long time) I don't care how many cats she has. I just don't want that many in my house. Laci changed her mind so many times on what she wanted to dress up as. She finally narrowed it down to a "Prom Queen". Then she found the scrubs that her cousin Shari gave her and decided to be a nurse. We had our Hancey Family Halloween party, complete with a spook alley (courtesy of my nephews, Brayden & Kurtis with some help from Shalee & Colby, & Troy) . Hot soup + yummy treats = lots of family fun. Laci & Katelyn were not very happy about being at the party so long. They ran out of time to go trick-or-treating around our neighborhood. By the time we finished out at my parents house and then went to Grandpa & Grandma Leishman's it was bedtime. Laci said it was her worst Halloween ever. :( What do you do? Too many things to fit into one evening.

I got really creative (for me) and made pumpkin pancakes. They were just colored, like pumpkins, tasted like pancakes.

Fall Fun

We are having so much fun this fall. I love fall! The cool, crisp air is awesome. I love the changing leaves and even though it kind of sucks that it gets dark so early, it helps us be more on a schedule.

Ryan and I joined Cross Fit South Town in August. I wanted a pass for my birthday along with Ryan to go with me. It has been so much fun going together. We are both getting so strong and feeling so much better. When we first started, they were starting a nutrition challenge. Ryan and I got on board and paid into the pot to do this. The challenge was: 8 week food log, Filthy fifty workout (50 reps of 10 moves), before and after pictures and improve on a skill. Ryan picked to improve his timed mile, he wanted to shave 2 minutes off and mine was to do 3-4 kipping pull-ups (youtube crossfit kipping pull ups, if you want to see what these are). We both worked really hard, and I have to say, I did this type of diet change on my own before, and it was not so easy. Having Ryan do it with me made a world of difference. Anyway, eight weeks later...Ryan took 1st in the mens! I took 2nd in the womens! It was a huge accomplishment for both of us. We are still sticking pretty close to the diet, which is a combo of the Paleo and Zone diet. Basically no carbs, sugar or starches. We both are loving cross fit and go almost every day. You can check out there website to see what we have been doing. www.crossfitsouthtown.com

Laci and Katelyn have been playing fall soccer. They are both really improving. I think they really enjoy it. We need to work with them on getting their endurance up, they both act like they are going to die out on the field sometimes. I am pretty sure Laci was the leading scorer on her team. She did really well, I guess the SV soccer camp that Stacy did for them really helped them out.

Of course in the middle of all this was the Taylor Swift concert. Laci and I had such a great time hanging out together. It was fun to have some one on one time with her. We did a little bit of shopping before and grabbed a bite to eat at McDonalds (yuck!) and that was not so great for the nutrition challenge Thank goodness they have salads, but they don't even compare to Wendy's salads, but that was the best/quickest/closest place we could find (and I let Laci pick). Laci was so excited about the concert she probably would have gone without eating. She got a t-shirt and a bracelet. She sang, danced and screamed so loud. It was so much fun to see her so excited about that. Our seats were probably 20 rows from the top of Energy Solutions Arena. They for sure weren't the best, but Laci didn't mind, she was just so happy to be there.

School Days

I can't believe that summer is over and the girls are now back in school. Laci is in 4th grade she got the teacher she wanted and is really excited to be in 4th grade. Katelyn is in 2nd and has a new teacher Mr. Lopez, so far she really likes him and loves school. Time really flies once you have kids. They are growing so fast. I wish I had better parenting skills, and that I could say things are going great now that school is back in. But, the fact is, I have no idea what I am doing. The girls are working me over lately. They are definitely giving me a run for my money. I thought once school started things would get back into a routine and the girls would settle down a bit. Not so, at least not yet. I swear my hair is getting grayer by the second. If anyone has any advice on what I can do to get my girls to behave, please let me know. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures from their first and second days of school.

Island Park with the Hancey Family

What would summer be without camping? Boring, if you ask me. I have always loved camping with my family. I have the best memories growing up camping! Thanks Mom and Dad for giving all of us that opportunity! So this year for the Hancey family camping trip we got to go to Island Park, Idaho. It is so beautiful up there and we had such a great time. It is fun to get together with everyone and relax. Yummy food was prepared by all, thanks everyone for your hard work! Konnie and Chad brought up canoes for all of us to enjoy. That was way fun going down the river at sunset. How gorgeous the sunset is and what a great time to relax. Janet & Lynn brought tubes for everyone to use to float in the river. Karalee came down with her kids and we all finally got the chance to meet Kevin. That was great to see everyone, but we really missed those that were not able to make it. Maybe next year. Here are some shots of the trip.

We took a little road trip to Quake Lake, MT. That was amazing, what a sad deal that was. I never knew about it. Here is a little info about it: On August 17, 1959 an earthquake in the Madison Canyon River Area, near West Yellowstone, formed Quake Lake. The earthquake created a massive landslide of about 80 million tons of rock, which stopped the flow of the Madison River in the Madison River Canyon gorge. The landslide caused 28 deaths, flooding and about $11 million in damage to the forests and highways in the area. The lake measures six miles long, one-third of a mile wide, and 190 feet deep. The Earthquake Lake Visitor Center displays a Memorial Boulder from the earthquake with a plaque of the names of the 28 people who died and the events of the earthquake. (http://visitmt.com/categories/moreinfo.asp?IDRRecordID=14323&siteid=1) It was a fun afternoon drive, it is so beautiful up in Montana, I could live there.

Ryan left to go play softball up in Anaconda, MT. He got a 2 for 1 trip. I think that was his way of getting out of hanging out with us for that many days. The girls and I were able to drive with Grandpa & Grandma to Mesa Falls, which is also another beautiful spot. I have only seen it in the winter when the snow is about 2 inches from the top of the rail. It is so pretty no matter what season you see it in. Here are a few pictures from that.

Where is Katelyn?

Katelyn has a great obsession with "guys" (aka..stuffed animals). She has a great collection of them and once we finished her room she has put them all up in a row on top of her closet. Then, she climbed up there and hid amongst them. What a rascal!

Laci's 9th Birthday

Wow! I can't believe Laci is nine,(and I can't believe how far behind I am on my blog, two and a half months after her birthday and I am getting this done.) Time goes by way too fast. I am so lucky to have such beautiful girls. Man the older they get the more expensive gifts they want. This year Laci wanted one of two things, either a pink four wheeler or Taylor Swift concert tickets. So, we went for the cheaper of the two and got the Taylor Swift tickets. Her reaction to the gift is funny. She is really excited about going. I think it will be fun for us to spend some one on one time together.

We had a birthday party for her. She wanted a sleepover party. I kept the guest list small, no way was I going to be able to have more than 5 girls over. We got it all planned and invitations delivered. We heard back from 3 girls that were coming, but only one could sleep over. The night of the party, only 2 girls showed up, Laci was a bit sad. I felt really bad for her. I will always make sure we RSVP for parties, very rude to not let someone know if you won't be there. I was super sick that night, ended up having the stomach flu. Uuuggg! Luckily, I have an awesome husband and father of my children. He took over and did everything for me and for the party. He even made the girls breakfast the next morning. I think she had a great time, although I missed most of it. I am not so sure that she didn't have a bit of the flu herself. She had it before me and I don't think she was quite over it. I hope neither of the girls that came ended up getting sick. Here are a few pictures of her big day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LACI! WE LOVE YOU!!

Zion's National Park

We were able to visit Zion's while in Southern Utah as well. What an amazing world we live in. It is absolutely beautiful down there. Way too hot, compared to the very mild spring weather we have been having. We had a great time. It is not the best spot to take young kids, only for the fact that there are some amazing trails to go on and they are a bit much for youngsters. Mel & Luke were not able to make it down to Zion's with us, because Luke got a bug and was not feeling well. The squirrels would just come right out and see you, the kids thought that was great. I took so many pictures, that I can't share them all. Here is a few...

The girls loved driving through the tunnels and honking the horn while going through them. Ryan about got in a fight with a drunk guy when we were waiting to get on the bus. The guy was cussing pretty loudly and making quite a scene. Then he tried to push his way past Ryan to get on the bus where part of his group was at. Ryan told him to keep his voice down and stop cussing because there were a lot of kids around and to wait his turn. The guy was a pretty small guy, he only hit Ryan at about his chest, but the booze made him think he could kick anyone's @$$. Poor Laci was in tears, freaking out and did not want her dad in a fight, the guy really did not stand a chance anyway. The guy had a big walking stick and if he was going to do anything to Ryan, that was his only chance. Ryan grabbed the stick so there would not be a chance of that. We got on the very crowded bus, which thankfully the jerks, friends and family took him away and did not get on the bus. Laci sobbed the rest of the bus ride. But, even after all that, we still enjoyed our trip to Zion's. Here are are some more great photos of our fun filled trip.

Southern Utah trip with the Leishman Family

June 9-12th we went to Southern Utah to meet up with Lisa & Liam, Lance, Mel & Luke. Lance, Mel and Luke were in Las Vegas at Lisa's and they drove up to meet us and do a bit of camping. Kim & Candace took Krystal, Alivia, and Hailey. Thomas drove down the next day. There were not many camp spots open yet because of all the snow this past winter. It was very cool during the day and really cold at night. it was so cold, we had to turn on the heater. It was a great time and lots of photo were taken. Here is a slide show of Bryce Canyon where we visited on one day.

Just outside of Bryce Canyon is a Wildlife Museum. If you ever get the chance to go, I would recommend it. All of the animals are amazing and there is a ton of them. Even baby beavers, the guy who owns it, said the mother beaver got hit by a car and animal control brought it to him. He didn't want it at first but then when he cut into it it had babies. Amazing. They have deer that you can feed by hand as well. The guy is from the Netherlands, but has lived in the US for a long time and obviously got these animals from all over the world.
